Wednesday, March 2

day thirty (!)

{Denim button up: H&M, Cami: Hollister, Cardigan: Gap, Jeans: Big Blue, Necklace: Forever 21.}
Reflection time.
Overall, I have really enjoyed my first 30 for 30 experience. I've definitely learned a lot about remixing my closet and finding inspiration in a variety of new {and sometimes odd} places. I have found some new blogs I love and I have been able to connect with some really awesome bloggers who also participated in the challenge. The one thing I would do differently next time is to add more colorful pieces to my selection! I found that I was kicking myself a lot for not being able to be bold with my outfits and I had to rely on accessories to bring more color into the ensembles. My favorite pieces from the last month would have to be my denim button up, black pencil skirt, and cowichan sweater. In all, I had a great time and I really appreciate all of you who commented in support throughout the last thirty days!

Thanks so much!

Tuesday, March 1

day twentyeight and night twentynine.

{Cami: Old Navy, Skirt: Jacob, Belt: my mom's}
{Cami: Banana Republic, Jeans: American Eagle, Belt: Volcom, NEcklace: The Bay.}

As inspired by the mother of 30 for 30 herself, I borrowed Kendi's idea of featuring both a day and a night outfit in one post. It also helps me play catch up since my Sunday outfit wasn't postable. I originally had a plan to centre two outfits around the polka dot top, until a quick trip into my archives revealed that I had already put together the evening outfit I had conjured up in my mind. But, I can adapt, so I changed the plan.

Also, the end of horrible photos is near. My father told me yesterday that my new camera is in the mail!

Monday, February 28

and twentysix, twentyseven.

{Sweater: Hollister, Skirt: Gap, Scarf: American Eagle, Tights: vendor on campus.}
{Button up: Tommy Hilfiger, Jeans: Big Blue, Booties: Joy & Peace, Belt: Khol's.}

We had a major snowfall on Saturday. And then rain yesterday. And just when I was sure my precious sun would never come back, I woke up to a few rays this morning. Awesome. In other news, I'm exhausted today. I don't know why, but I'm just so tired. Needless to say, I kept my outfit nice and simple. I was able to get through my morning classes {painfully, I might add} but since my usual monday meeting is cancelled, I'm definitely settling down for some slothtime after I get this posted.

You may notice that Sunday's outfit is missing and that is for one very good reason. To paraphrase my mother, 'No part of [my] outfit worked'. Mostly, I just threw on the warmest stuff I had and called it a day. Sunday was most definitely made for comfort.

Friday, February 25

day twentyfive.

{Cami: Hollister, Striped Top: Jacob, Blazer: TNA via Aritzia, Jeans: American Eagle, Scarf: Garage, Boots: Roberto Vianni.}

Sunshine! Again! Boy I could really get used to waking up to the light streaming in through my window. I guess Mr. Groundhog was right when he said Spring would be coming early this year. My apologies to those of you who still have excessive amounts of snow - I in no way mean to brag about the weather here. If it helps, even though it's sunny, it's still quite chilly out. I've discovered this week, that there really is nothing that can put me in a better mood than sunshine {except coffee, of course}. Even if it's cold out, I've found it very hard to be stressed or upset when everything in the world is looking so pretty and bright!

Thursday, February 24

day twentyfour.

{Sweater: TNA via Artizia, Tshirt: Gap, Jeans: Citizens of Humanity, Scarf: vendor on campus.}

Awkward:
- My crazy self on tuesday night. I had so much energy/feelings of freedom after handing in my last paper that morning, that I didn't even know what to do with myself. I think I confused my staff during our meeting by being super excited about EVERYTHING we talked about. And by finding everything amusing. Professional = my middle name.
- The frequency at which I email myself while sleeping. I sometimes wake up in the middle of the night with a "very urgent message" to remember the next morning. In my half conscious state, I proceed to email myself from my phone in an excess of incoherent sentence fragments. Last term it resulted with my giving the title, "It's Justin Bieber's world, we're just living in it" to my final paper for an Urban Geography class. Seriously, I can't make this stuff up. I don't even know that I've listened to one of his songs. I call this person "Sleepdrunk Karla" because, although I'm asleep, the messages appear to have been written by a very intoxicated person who is not me and cannot spell.
- I think the two stories above are awkward enough to last an entire month or two.

Awesome:
- All the sunshine we've had this week! It really does have the power to put a girl in the best mood.
- Actually being able to do some recreational reading yesterday evening. So great.
- How every time I put on this sweater, I am reminded of how warm and comfortable it is. And that I really don't wear it as much as I should.
- Inside jokes. Period.
- Finding new blogs I love by following the comments posted on here. Exhibit A: Better Than Bland (PS, Erin, based on your references to Gilmore Girls, Trading Spaces, and Martha Stewart, I'm fairly certain we're the same person. Cool.)

Wednesday, February 23

day twentythree.

{Sweater: Gap, Blazer: TNA via Aritzia, Jeans: American Eagle, Necklace: The Bay, Nail Polish: OPI's Glitzerland}

Following the weight of all my assignments from the last two days, waking up this morning was so easy. Just knowing that the day would be less stressful was enough to look forward to. And it was also nice out. Again! I could really get used to this.
Considering that my school load has lightened up a bit, I'm hoping to power through the recreational readings that I've been recently neglecting - there are a few novels I would love to post on my Book List soon.
My parents have returned from their vacation (Welcome Home!) which also means, as I discussed here, that the end of this grainy pictures is very, very near. Hooray! Now, if I could just find a photographer friend and move these shoots outside...

Tuesday, February 22

day twentytwo.

{Dress: thrifted, Cardigan: Gap, Jeans: Big Blue, Belt: thrifted, Bangles: JCrew.)

I handed in my last paper this morning {and by last paper, I mean last paper for the week. Not the term, unfortunately...} and then I got to enjoy the sunshine{!} we had here all day. I've realized that it's incredibly difficult for me to not be happy and enjoy the day when Mr. Sunshine comes out to play. Considering the weather, I really wanted to wear something summery today. And since I've been wearing the life out of my skirts as of late, I had to resort to the one dress I included in my 30.
Note to self: Include more dresses next time you do this challenge.

As Mama Kendi eluded to in her post today, I too found it very difficult to choose weather-appropriate pieces because I legitimately had no idea what the weather would end up doing this month. I mean, this past week alone we have experienced snow, hail, rainstorms thunder and lightning action included, and some beautiful sunshine. All I can say is that Mother Nature better learn to be more decisive.

Monday, February 21

and nineteen, twenty, twentyone.

{Cami, worn underneath: Garage, Cami, worn on top: Urban Outfitters, Skirt: RW&Co.}
{Button up: Tommy Hilfiger, Cardigan: Gap, Skirt: PacSun, Belt: thrifted, Tights: Gap}
{Button up: H&M, Skirt: RW&Co., Belt: from my mother, Necklace: The Bay, Tights: Gap, Boots: Roberto Vianni.}

After my week off, I had the pleasure of being greeted by a midterm and two paper deadlines this morning. Oh. Goody. All I can say is that I sort of glad that I didn't end up using my time off to go on a trip, because otherwise, the cram session that would have inevitably resulted yesterday would. have. been. UGLY.

Instead, I spent yesterday going to church, followed by brunch {yummm. I love brunch!}, and an afternoon of very light studying. And just a touch of slothtime. All day saturday, on the other hand, was spent running errands in the morning and then locking myself in the library for the rest of the day and well into the night. So I would say I paid my dues.
Looking back, I'm a little surprised that my weekend was so full of skirt action, but considering it was somewhat nice out {minus the weird snow we had today} I guess it makes a little bit more sense.

My parents return from a trip to Hawaii tomorrow, which means a camera purchase is in the near future. What does my parents' return have to do with a new camera, you ask? The answer to that would be that I have this weird need to have my father look over every piece of technology that I ever consider buying. I don't know why, I just need him to confirm that it's a good purchase. Regardless, say goodbye to awful dark and grainy pictures very soon!

Friday, February 18

day eighteen.

{Cami: Gap, Cardigan: Tommy Hilfiger, Jeans: Citizens of Humanity, Belt: my momma's}

Today was my last official day off from classes, so I spent it writing a paper. Naturally.
I also went grocery shopping so that I could make a great, wholesome meal tonight. I've been eating garlic fries way too much this week. I think I have an addiction. So, to offset all that I made tomato sauce from scratch and a pot of barley. I love barley.
Since today was so chill, my outfit is clearly a direct reflection. No need to go crazypantsfancy for a day at home. And, let's be honest, there's no one to impress at the supermarket.

Thursday, February 17

day seventeen.

{Cami: Garage, Cardigan: Gap, Skirt: RW&Co., Cowel: Made by Me, Belt: Thrifted}

Awkward:
- How my supervisors have taken to calling me "Mad Dog" and the more I fight it the more they refer to me as it in public. Blagh.
- Using my computer to take pictures of myself. New camera, I'm now counting down the days until you arrive.
-How tiny this "awkward list" is.

Awesome:
- The fact that no matter how many times I watch Gilmore Girls, I still find things funny enough to legitimately laugh out loud. In my apartment. Alone. Best Wednesday night ever.
- Finally finishing my self-taught learn as I go knitting project while watching the GGs. {see above}
- Meandering around town yesterday with a good friend who I haven't seen in two whole months. And I get to see her again today because it's her birthday! Funfunfun.
- Having this week "off". Enough said.
- In additional to that last point, being able to sleep in past 9am.
- Whenever I start going to a new Starbucks, it only takes the baristas a week or two to know my name and regular drink.

Wednesday, February 16

day sixteen.

{Button up: Tommy Hilfiger, Jeans: Big Blue, Scarf: vendor on campus, Belt: thrifted}

I went camera searching again today, and I think I may have found a winner, but I'm taking some time to think about it, just to be sure. Let me know if you have any suggestions for a new camera. Now I'm off to get some work done for my classes. Clearly this break is just a trick to make us students think we're getting time off, when in reality we get so overloaded with assignments and midterms the week before that we have no choice but to study non-stop instead. It's times like these that I'm glad I'm graduating this year. Sigh.
A special thanks to Jo from Days Go By for naming me as one of her choices for the "Stylish Blogger Award". It was really kind of you! Jo is a fellow 30 for 30 challenger - check her out.
